The site of a police showdown with a gunman who had allegedly taken hostages on Friday in Napa Valley is a rehabilitation center for war veterans trying to transition back to civilian life. The Pathway Home opened in 2008 as American servicemen streamed back from the Iraq War, many of them confronting post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. The home sits on the sprawling campus of the Veterans Home of California-Yountville, about 10 miles north of the city of Napa. The facility was featured in the 2017 film “Thank You For Your Service,” which portrayed a soldier returning from the Middle East, played by Miles Teller, who was treated for debilitating emotional trauma suffered on the battlefield.
