SFGATE: Thousands rally for justice at Women’s March in SF

Thousands rally for justice at Women’s March in SF Published on January 20, 2019 at 08:27AM by By Lauren Hernández Thousands of protesters thrust clenched fists in the air, donned knitted pink hats, chanted demands for reproductive rights and social justice for all before marchin through downtown San Francisco as part of the third Women’s March Saturday. The march came just weeks after a record 127 women were sworn into the 116th United States Congress — 21 Republicans and 106 Democrats — making the new body the most racially and ethnically diverse in the country’s history with the first Native American woman and the first two Muslim women.

SFGATE: Protester interrupts start of New York women's march rally

Protester interrupts start of New York women's march rally Published on January 20, 2019 at 01:53AM by By REBECCA GIBIAN, Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — A clash over inclusivity and alleged anti-Semitism spilled onto the stage at one of two competing women's march rallies in New York City on Saturday, with a protester co-opting the podium to declare the movement's backers "the real Nazi march." The woman, identified by supporters as 25-year-old political activist Laura Loomer, interrupted Women's March NYC director Agunda Okeyo as she was making opening remarks at the rally near a cluster of courthouses in lower Manhattan. "The women's march does not represent Jewish people. The women's march is the real Nazi march," Loomer said.

SFGATE: Scaled-down, but still angry, Women's March returns to DC

Scaled-down, but still angry, Women's March returns to DC Published on January 20, 2019 at 08:41AM by By ASHRAF KHALIL, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Amid internal controversies and a capital city deeply distracted by the partial government shutdown, the third Women's March returned to Washington on Saturday with an enduring message of anger and defiance aimed directly at President Donald Trump's White House. The original march in 2017, the day after Trump's inauguration, flooded the city with pink-hatted protesters. The exact size of the turnout remains subject to a politically charged debate, but it's generally regarded as the largest Washington protest since the Vietnam era. This year was a more modest affair for multiple reasons. An estimated 100,000 protesters packed several blocks around Freedom Plaza, just east of the White House, holding a daylong rally.

SFGATE: Women's March goes on amid anti-Semitism charges

Women's March goes on amid anti-Semitism charges Published on January 20, 2019 at 03:51AM by Samantha Schmidt, DeNeen L. Brown, Morgan Smith and Justin Jouvenal, The Washington Post WASHINGTON - Thousands of women are expected in the nation's capital Saturday for the third annual Women's March on Washington. Organizers wrote in a permit application weeks ago that they expected hundreds of thousands to attend - a number similar to the 2017 march the day after Donald Trump's inauguration - but a National Park Service permit issued Thursday indicated that about 10,000 are expected. The 2019 march is taking place amid controversies that have dogged the national Women's March organization, including allegations of anti-Semitism and secretive financial dealings and disputes over who gets to own and define the Women's March. Some organizers have called for its national co-chairs to resign.
