SFGATE: Curry dazzles as Warriors win to set up showdown with Houston

Curry dazzles as Warriors win to set up showdown with Houston Published on May 09, 2018 at 11:53AM by By Connor Letourneau As he sauntered to the Warriors’ bench midway through the third quarter Tuesday night, Stephen Curry chewed his mouth-guard and raised his right hand to acknowledge the sell-out crowd on its feet. In that moment, with Golden State well on its way to a 113-104 win over the Pelicans in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals, those yellow-clad fans were reveling in more than a game-changing run. That third-quarter standing ovation was a celebration of Curry’s return to his dazzling ways. To help Golden State turn a three-point halftime lead into a 23-point cushion by the time he took the bench with 4:04 left in the third, Curry scored 13 of his 28 points and delivered a steady stream of highlights.

SFGATE: Warriors’ Kevon Looney becomes key figure in playoffs

Warriors’ Kevon Looney becomes key figure in playoffs Published on May 09, 2018 at 11:28AM by By Ron Kroichick At one point in the first half Tuesday night, New Orleans center Anthony Davis walked toward the scorer’s table. Warriors coaches promptly summoned Kevon Looney, who hurriedly ripped off his warm-ups to re-enter the game in place of David West. Kevon Looney, playoff stalwart? Looney had not spent one second in an NBA postseason game before April 14. Zero. His first two seasons in the league essentially were a washout, rife with injuries (two hip surgeries), precious little production and swirling skepticism about his future with the Warriors. And look at him now. Looney has become a fixture in head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation in these 2018 playoffs.

SFGATE: Kerr calls Iguodala a ‘future Hall of Famer’

Kerr calls Iguodala a ‘future Hall of Famer’ Published on May 09, 2018 at 07:45AM by By Connor Letourneau The quote came toward the beginning of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s lengthy response Tuesday night to a question about Andre Iguodala’s penchant for clutch performances: "He’s probably a future Hall of Famer." Within minutes, that seven-word sound bite rippled through social media, prompting some to shoot down Kerr’s suggestion that Iguodala deserves enshrinement in the Hall of Fame. That someone who is more role player than superstar could be considered for such an honor may have seemed a bit far-fetched. This is a player who has never made an All-NBA team, has only once been an All-Star, and owns relatively modest career averages of 12.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
