'Unprecedented' wildfire in Redding grows, claims 6th life Published on July 30, 2018 at 09:28AM by By Michael Cabanatuan and Kurtis Alexander REDDING — The wildfire that tore into the city of Redding, killing at least five people and destroying hundreds of homes, spread to 89,194 acres by Sunday morning amid erratic winds and hot temperatures. The Carr Fire grew less than during previous nights, though, offering at least some encouraging news to firefighters and residents who have seen little progress on the massive blaze. But fire officials warned that a heat advisory for the area remained in effect through Monday morning, creating challenging conditions. Containment of the blaze was estimated to be just 5 percent Sunday.
