In a callback to 2015, 2019 began with a debate over a dress, and two different ways of seeing it.

"Nancy Pelosi, wearing a hot pink dress, ascended to the marble dais in the center of the House chamber to accept the wooden gavel," wrote the New York Times Politics section in a since-deleted tweet on Thursday.

Outrage swiftly followed, as it is wont to do on the internet.
